Yesterday marked a milestone in metal history as Valley of Chrome took to the stage at Wacken Open Air (the world's largest metal festival) and raised the Philippine flag high as they became the first Filipino band to ever perform on that legendary stage. Accompanied by their manager Jeff Keenan (the mastermind behind Numinous management that was instrumental in making this all happen) and their photographer Art Estole, they proceeded to play a full set to a crowd of thousands of metalheads from across the world, who headbanged, moshed, and cheered along with the band despite the language barrier. Thankfully, you don't need to take our word for it, and can instead check out an awesome 28-minute video of their performance that was broadcasted live on the band's Facebook page, and at the time of publishing, has been viewed over 180,000 times and has over 4000 shares. Check it out below, and raise your horns for Filipino metal!
You can see a ton more photos and videos from the band's trip to Germany (including their warmup show in Hamburg) on the band's Facebook page, and if you haven't already, be sure to give them a like and follow so you can be among the first to know the next time VoC makes history!
On a more personal note, Valley of Chrome was one of the first bands to ever record and work with Tower of Doom, and being able to witness firsthand the journey they've been on has been absolutely mind-blowing. From shitty gigs in bars with broken amps and toilets that led straight to hell, to playing on the biggest metal stage on the planet, the band has gone through so much to achieve their dreams, and we couldn't be prouder. They've survived a crazy amount of lineup and management changes, they juggled their jobs while performing on several nationwide tours (from the Siege Tours to the Crows and Vikings Tours), they've adapted to huge shifts from the CD era to the download era to the streaming era, and every time we see a challenge thrown at the band, they continue to strive and succeed. Now they're able to chalk another item off their bucketlist, and we can't wait to see what they'll do next. Way to go Valley of Chrome, you guys fucking rock.
