Originally called Oblivion Beyond during their formation in 2012, the band’s founding lineup consisted of Mortal Fear, Rust Phantom, and Valley of Chrome members.
By late 2012, the band changed their name, dropping “Beyond,” and performed at the annual Rakrakan festival as Oblivion.
Oblivion traces the meaning of their band name to a “state of being mentally withdrawn or blank.”
Their live recording of the song “Amadeus” was released by Tower of Doom on November 1, 2012, as part of the Tower Sessions series.
Oblivion play Technical Death Metal. Owing to the previous experience of its members, notably vocalist Jeanjaquet and Mike Ko, Oblivion’s sound traces its roots to the Filipino band Mortal Fear.
The band’s musical influences are steeped in classic Thrash Metal and Death Metal, with a distinct playing style reminiscent of Necrophagist, latter-era Death, Origin, Cryptopsy, and Meshuggah.
